About “Baisen”

Baisen’s name comes from her ancestor, Morita Baisen, a female physician who lived during the Edo period. Since that time, people often visit her statue to pray for good health.

One day, in the spring of 2013, Baisen received some advice from the priest in her hometown of Tenryu village in southern Shinshu. He said that Baisen should follow her ancestor’s mind with a Japanese flute. So Baisen decided to revive the name of her an-cestor.

Origin of sound

The sound of Baisen was born in the countryside of southern Shinshu, where she grew up surrounded by mountains, rivers, hot sunny days, moonlit nights and starry skies. Baisen enjoyed all that nature provided in her immediate surroundings. Feeling rain and snow on her skin, enjoying the interactions with the local wildlife. Baisen immersed herself in sounds, images, and fragrances from nature, breathing in it, playing in it and experiencing the harmonic dance between these senses. This time spent in this wilderness full of colorful life allowed Baisen to develop a vivid image of the type of music and costume design she wished to debut to the world.

This “dialogue with nature” that she developed from a young age was a blissful time and made her very relaxed. From these experiences came the source of Baisen’s sound.

Events from 10 years ago

Baisen has had a deep connection to the music of nature since the early age of three, and studying piano and flute through her formative years became very familiar with the world of music. Eventually, Baisen would begin to work in occupations that would connect her to music, taking on jobs such as MC, reporter, and directing. She felt that she was living a good life.

Then one night, around 10 years ago, she had a vision from a god in a dream. The god told Baisen to “Start music soon”. After experiencing such a powerful vision, Baisen soon quit her job and began her career in music. Despite others around her disagreeing with her decision, Baisen pressed forward. She could see her future. Baisen was excited to be at the beginning of a glittering and dazzling dream.

A week later Baisen decided to “work on music”. While taking in the scenery of Ka-zakoshi-Yama, (Mt. Kazakoshi), the melody and lyrics of one of Baisen’s first songs “Arigato (Thank you)”, came to her.

Before that fateful day ten years ago, Baisen had forgotten about her love of music while moving from one work project to another. But the vision had reminded her of composing while looking at the mountains, rivers and listening to the rain. It was these memories that gave Baisen the overflowing energy to peruse her musical career.

From now on…

I hope my flute and music will aid in the harmony of all the creatures of the earth and spread into the universe. Tuning into the harmony of nature. The music of Baisen ex-presses the feelings of Japanese beauty. It is Japan’s soul, it’s beautiful heart, it’s beauti-ful sound that I want people to remember is truly important. I want to express this to the youth who will shape the future and to the hearts of people all over the world.

I will play the Japanese flute for peace and happiness. I hope that you will be touched by the soul my music will reflect.
